As this magazine is aimed at females aged 15 - 19 who are interested in indie and pop music, I thought the pictures should:
- represent the band's name in some way
- not wear clothing that's too over the top
- wear simple colours, but improvise on the colour with accessories
- look as though they could be or relate to females aged 15 - 19
- nothing that looks too expensive
- something that looks fun
My band members were my friends Brogan Ceurvels and Paige French. I chose them to be the band members for my magazine as they are people I can rely on to do what I would want them to and to not let me down. As well as that I knew that they were the type of image that the target audience would want to look at.
Clothing
I told my friends to bring to my house, two different sets of clothing;
- casual everyday clothing - skinny jeans, a nice top, jumper and converses
- party wear - a nice fitting dress or again a nice top but with a skirt and heels
They both brought along excellent choices, in which I would like to see in a magazine myself. My thought in them bringing casual clothing was to show them as ordinary people like those who will be reading the magazine. I thought that there should be more than one choice of clothing in a photoshoot, so the party wear I thought would make them seem more like 'celebrities' in this media crazed world we live in.
Camera Angles
I didn't want all the photos to look exactly the same, so I took a wide range of angled photos with the camera:
- medium shots
- close ups
- high angled
- low angled
- side on
I ended up taking over 100 photos. But I knew many of them I wouldn't use as they weren't what would be seen in a music magazine. By the end of looking through the 100 photos I managed to narrow it down to just 20, from which I decided what one should be the front cover. I'll decide what one's I want in the double page spread when I have researched it more.
Band Name
To be honest I didn't think of this until doing the photoshoot, trying to take pictures to get ideas. Whilst taking the pictures one of my friends I had model for me came up with the idea 'Out of the Closet' which I just thought funny at the time. However, after thinking about it I thought that it was something edgy and different to anything that was around at that moment. Also that it was a name which would intrigue many people and so get them into listening to their music. It came from the idea that my friends wanted to take some photos coming out of a closet, which will make for a good picture to put in the magazine.
