Music Magazine Research

What Type of Audience Should I Focus On?

Ages

4 - 9
10 - 14
15 - 19
20 - 25
26 - 31
31+

I have chosen to pick the age group 15 - 19 for my target audience. I picked that age group as it is what I am in. I also chose it because it will allow to me ask my friends who are also of that age what they think of my magazine as I am going along. I personally think that it is a good group age group to target as everyone is coming into their own and finding out who they are. Hopefully they would find that when it comes to music they can help find who they are with the magazine that i am going to make.

Gender

Male
Female

In my magazine I think that it would be easier if I chose to focus on females. This is because I know what kind of colours they like and fonts they might chose, to make it a tad more feminine. However I do not want to exclude males at all, so it is not going to be all pink and fluffy, it needs to have a certain edge to it. Which I hope to achieve.

Genre

Rock
Pop
R&B
Indie
Hip Hop
Jazz
Club
Drum and Bass

I have chose along with my target audience that my magazine should focus on Indie and Pop styles of music. I have chosen those two types of music as not every artist sticks to just one style of music and i think that then the magazine will attract more people. The two genres are different but can attract the same people. I think that it is a good choice as most people like pop since they were young and just have a taste for it, whereas indie people are just finding out about it at this age and getting into something unusual.

What Should I Call My Magazine?

Pop - 2
L!sten - 6
Dizzy - 4
Spin - 4
Musak - 2
Tune - 2

First of all i started by brainstorming what I think would be a good name for a magazine. I then went on to ask a group of 20 people from my target audience as to which they would prefer. I am quite pleased that they ended up choosing L!sten as it was my favourite out of all of them I think that i could do the most with it on the front cover.
